When Senior Dharma Teacher Paul Haller visited the retreat space at Tiruvannamalai to bless the land, many priests and monks from San Francisco Zen Center also came to India. Nityaniketan an ashram nearby was transformed into a mini Tassajara like space and a zendo was set up with daily regular sitting in the morning and evening. We also did a full moon ceremony. At the end of a month’s stay, a week long sesshin was organized. Some artists put up their works in an art exhibition and there was also a live paper collage of a Buddha portrait. Some local Kirtan singers came one evening and we were engaged in group chanting. We planted hundred saplings around the fence. Meditation on the cushion and meditation in action. This was an introductory practice of Zen in India.
